My apologies to all for being sucked in. I found this before reading Obsidian’s admonition. It does concern domestic violence laws in India which get very complicated very fast in conjunction with extended families.

I agree in part. The consideration should be one of proportionate response based on intent. A weak hit meant with great malice should be met with overwhelming force instantly. Call it a sign of respect for your adversary. Meeting a weak hit with weeker hit than one is capable of us a clear sign of weakness, and fear.
